How does chivalry relates to the crusades?

    The crusaders invented the mounted warrior with a lance to characterize knighthood. The lance came from foot soldiers who used lances like javelins to throw or used them for stabbing like a spear. The new way knights used lances was they positioned the point of the lance with their arm in the enemies direction.The lance was placed in the armpit on the knight and the saddle was deeper so the lance could hit with more force for more power. This technique was one of the main prospects that chivalry formed, and in time knighthood began to developed its own code of ethnics and technology.

        The crusade was both a pilgrimage and a holy war which regrades some knights as better than others. Their skill was demonstrated in battle fought for the pope of Italy, which basically means that the knights fought for the church. The crusaders were Christ's vassals, or in other words they were warriors of god. Participation in the crusade was not a duty of the code of chivalry. The first crusade was a military success but was a papacy failure. A papacy is what the people and the pope think. Since chivalry and the crusades were so different they both eventually split into two entirely different groups .

How does chivalry relate to religon?

     

       The values of chivalry was deeply influenced by Christianity. In the 11th century churches wanted to decline the violence in the warrior class. Chivalry tried to place limits on warfare within Europe and demand respect for all churches and all members of the laity. The virtues of the christian knight were suspos to be fidelity, piety, obedience to the clergy and too serve god. All of these religious ideals were reflected in writing and was linked to the promotion of the crusade. 

          The church couldn't keep up with chivalry which idealized splendor and glory. The church feared knights but also needed them to keep the people safe. Chivalry was created so that knights would still show respect to the church and praised the knights who fought on the side of the church. In the 11th century, the church invented liturgical blessings that praised the knights who respected the church. The church also made stories of respectful knights such as the legend of the holy grail so that other knights would want to be like them.

How does the code of chivalry efect knights in battle?

           

           Chivalry made up the rules bout surrender.It said to treat enemies well and explained the payment of ransoms. Knights were forbidden to use their weapons when they were not in battle. I think this is a good idea so the knights wouldn't just kill people who make them mad. The highest honor of chivalry was to be recognized as honorable by the enemy. War was a knights natural thing to do and if they disobeyed chivalry they would be severely punished. One group of knights were cut to pieces by peasants and the other knights thought that their death was un-honorable because they were killed by people rather than other than knights.

          Since the new invention f the lance to knights armor would have to be greatly improved. Since the knights usually only wore a light coat of chain-mail, which would be easily penetrated by the lance, the knights wore plate armor which protected the chest and back. In the 15th century, knights wore a full suit of armor which greatly increased the weight. The full suit also included armor on the legs and a full head mask. It really is crazy how knights armor improved so quickly and how even the body armor used today is effected by the knights armor and how they designed it.

Where does chivalry come from?

            
       The word chivalry comes from the word chevalier, which is the french word for knight. Chivalry emerged in the 12^th century and fell apart in the middle ages. I know this doesn't seem like much time for such an important idea, but if you really lived in this time,you would know that it was around for many generations. Chivalry was a profession and was made up of people who could afford the armor weapons horse etc. In the 12^th  century social an ethical things were added to the code of chivalry. most knights who followed chivalry were nobles or rich farmers. Chivalry was baled on the evolution of the mounted warrior.
 
           Originally the Latin referred to the army as a whole, Calvary and foot soldiers alike. The ideas of chivalry and knighthood remained unthought of through the middle ages. In the middle ages knights only played a minimal role in battle but without the knights the armies would would loose many more men. When I first read this I was surprised at how long if took the people to make knights so important because armies could become much more efficient if they just thought fo the code of chivalry sooner.
