The importance of chivalry to ancient people.

Chivalry was the code that made the knights such great fighters. The knights were dedicated to doing good deeds for people. Their actions were supposed to be based on loyalty and generosity that came from the spirit and raised knights above other men. Knights were also supposed to protect women, children, and sick and old people at all costs. Chivalry was also very important on the battle field and all knights regarded each other as brother in arms when they were enemies in battle.

In the 11th and 12th century’s knights were mostly people that were close to peasantry or were peasantry. They were only distinguished by there possession of weapons. In the 12th century there was evidence that even serfs became knights to become free, which seems like a pretty good deal to me. In the mik-13th century it was only possible to become a knight if you were born from a noble family or made so by a noble degree such as adopted. This development was enforced by chivalry, which encouraged that the old forum of knighthood was not as good as the new one. I think that the older forum of knight hood was better because then everyone could have a chance of being a knight.

  1. I never would have thought that knights were close to peasantry or even were that! I was wondering why everyone had a chance to be a knight in the later time but not now?
